Updated: Feb 18, 2021

It has become a popular catering option to book a food truck or street food caterer for a wedding, celebration, corporate event or event promotion. Are you looking to impress your guests with delicious food and colourful food trucks? Here is our Love Street Food NZ top 5 tips to help you get started on booking the perfect food truck for your event.

No.1 Work Out Your Budget

The cost of hiring a food truck varies upon the number of people attending, location of your event , food requirements and duration. However, hiring a food truck is generally a cost effective way of catering for your event. As a guide you should consider $1,500 - $2000 as a starting point for your mobile food caterer and $500 - $1,000 for desserts. Mobile bars typically start at $1500. Street food caterers are often flexible with their menus and pricing.

No.2 Think About The Cuisine and Style

Check out our range of food trucks by cuisine and you will see that there is a huge variety of cuisines and styles to choose from. From Filipino street food, wood-fired pizzas, authentic Italian, contemporary Chinese to gourmet hot dogs and sexy burgers. Many of the caterers can customise a menu to suit and some even offer canapes and grazing tables. Caterers operate from trucks, others from trailers and gazebos.

Don't forget to consider the dietary requirements of your guests. Think dairy free, gluten free and vegetarian and vegan options for your event. Why not add in a dessert truck and/or a mobile bar or mobile coffee truck for your day. Consider a doughnut wall, a range of French Pastries or hand crafted gelato.

No.3 How Many Food Trucks Do I Need?

Typically one food truck can cater for up to 150 people with 200 as the maximum. If budget allows it is worth considering having two food main food trucks to create a variety of food options and improve the speed of delivery of your guests. Think of these great combinations - Pizza and Italian for a Mediterranean feel or one of our Asian Inspired caterers alongside one of the incredible gourmet burger trucks. Think about a classy mobile coffee option to kick off the proceedings. For larger events the Love Street Food team can curate a tasty line- up of the best street food around.

No.4 Book Your Venue

We recommend that you chose your venue first. Having a food truck or street food caterer gives you great flexibility on location from community centers to stunning waterfront locations like The French Bay Yacht Club or Kauri Bay Boomrock . The caterer brings their kitchen to you. Make sure that there is enough space for a food truck, easy access to the site and that there is access to power (if required).
